PDF, PS, EPS, EPI and AI file formats are all PostScript-based formats created by Adobe mainly for printed, published and electronically distributed documents and graphics, such as technical documentation, brochures, manuals, guides, different forms, images, illustrations, catalogues, etc. It does not mean that these formats are interchangeable, but they have some things in common. Just a couple of examples to prove it: PDF, PS, EPS, EPI and AI files are non-editable, which provides them a certain protection from the unauthorized use; files saved in the PostScript-based formats look the same on many different platforms and systems, etc.

How to batch convert PDF, PS, EPS, EPI and AI files using ReaConverter:

If you sometimes (or often) need to deal with any of these formats, be it at home, at work, at university or elsewhere, you might have had to convert them from one file format to another and wondered how to make this process more efficient. ReaConverter Pro allows not only to produce good quality files out of PostScript-based files, but also do it quickly in a batch mode.

Using ReaConverter you will be able to perform PDF conversion (for example, the popular PDF to JPG, JPG to PDF, PS to PDF, etc.) and conversion of other Postscript-based formats to up to 30 different file formats.

To successfully convert PDF, PS, EPS, EPI and AI files using ReaConverter, the following should be taken into account:

1. All PostScript-based files can be converted by ReaConverter Pro only. Another requirement necessary for PDF, PS, EPS, EPI and AI conversion is that you also need to install the special Ghostscript driver available for free at http://www.reasoft.com/downloads/ghostscript.exe.



2. ReaConverter Pro can read all Postscript-based formats, i.e. you can use it to convert PDF, PS, EPS, EPI and AI files, however, the number of Postscript-based formats that ReaConverter can write to is limited to PDF and EPS.



3. Generally, ReaConverter does not convert to vector formats. However, there is an exception: it is possible to perform the direct conversion from PDF to EPS (PDF>EPS), AI to EPS (AI>EPS), EPS to AI (EPS>AI), PS to PDF (PS>PDF), PDF to PS (PDF>PS), and EPS to PDF (EPS>PDF). 'Direct' here means that neither additional nor loading settings influence the conversion, and that it is impossible to apply any editing actions to the input PDFs. In case of conversion to PDF, the resulting PDFs always become raster.



4. PDF and PS files can contain several pages within one file, i.e. PDF and PS are multi-page file formats, whereas EPS, EPI and AI can be one-page files only.



5. By default ReaConverter loads PDF, PS, EPS, EPI and AI files with 72 dpi. To enhance the quality of the output files, the loading resolution can be changed to 200-300 dpi in 'Menu' -> 'Options' -> 'PDF/EPS/EPI/PS/AI loading settings'.
