FAQ
RSW to MTV Conversion
What are RSW files?
RSW is the image version of the Raster Matrix Format, which is used by the GIS programs Panorama and Integration. While the sibling .mtw file stores elevation grids, an RSW file holds ordinary pictures, such as scanned paper maps, aerial photographs, and satellite images that serve as backgrounds for vector maps. The picture can be either a color-indexed image, in which every pixel points to a color in a table, or a full-color image. The file also stores simple georeferencing, which lets the program place the picture at the right spot on a map. Because the format was made for use inside these systems, it is little known elsewhere, and it is listed in file format registries mostly as a part of the Raster Matrix Format family.
What are MTV files?
The MTV extension is associated with the MTV Ray Tracer, a piece of software created by Mark VandeWettering and currently discontinued. The software's ray tracing abilities allow it to display 3-D images in 2-D by tracing a path of light through pixels on an image surface. The MTV format uses a simple algorithm and design, and continues to be used for designing computer games and animations or in television and film production.
