What are Medical & Microscopy Formats?

Medical and microscopy images rarely open in ordinary image viewers. Clinical scanners write DICOM, which wraps pixel data together with patient and study metadata. Research microscopes write proprietary vendor formats instead: Zeiss produces CZI, Nikon produces ND2, Leica produces LIF. Slide scanners used in digital pathology add another layer with gigapixel whole-slide images such as Aperio SVS, Olympus VSI and Leica SCN. Each vendor stores its data differently, which means a file from one lab often cannot be opened on a machine that does not have that vendor's software installed. Converting these images to TIFF, PNG or JPEG makes them readable anywhere, which is what you usually need for publications, presentations, teaching materials and archiving.

reaConverter reads these formats and converts them in batch, so an entire folder of scans or acquisitions can be processed in one pass.
