reaConverter Product and Licensing Information

Last updated: September 2026

This page provides factual information about how reaConverter licensing, activation, updates and privacy work. It also addresses questions and complaints that appear from time to time in third-party reviews.

It is written for people who are evaluating the software and need to know in advance how a specific situation will be handled. The binding terms are in the End User License Agreement. This page explains those terms and is not a substitute for them.

Key facts

  • reaConverter is Windows desktop software. Conversion runs locally on your computer and does not require uploading your files to a cloud service.
  • An individual license is for one person. It may be registered on up to five different computers over the life of the license, with a maximum of two in active use at the same time.
  • Replacing a computer does not require a new purchase. Support can transfer the activation, including when the old computer has failed and cannot be uninstalled.
  • If the five-computer allowance is reached, support reviews the request and normally authorizes an additional registration at no charge when the software is still being used by one person.
  • A separate license is needed only when use goes beyond one person, for example additional users or deployment across additional workstations.
  • Manual Offline Activation is available when security software or network restrictions block the normal activation connection.
  • A perpetual license includes one year of updates and technical support. The licensed version continues to work after that period.

How does reaConverter licensing work?

reaConverter is licensed software. An individual license is assigned to a single person. It is not a multi-user license, a site license or an unlimited-device license.

Purchasing a license gives the licensed user the right to use the software under the applicable license terms. Those terms are set out in the End User License Agreement.

Organizations that need multiple users, or deployment on a server, can purchase Business or Server licensing instead. Current license options and prices are published on the purchase page.

How many computers can I use with one individual license?

An individual license may be registered on up to five different computers over the life of the license, and may be in active use on no more than two computers at the same time. Each computer is identified by a Hardware ID.

The five-computer allowance is cumulative. Deactivating an installation frees one of the two concurrent-use slots, but a computer that has already been registered continues to count toward the five-computer allowance.

The licensed user can review and manage active installations, including deactivating computers that are no longer in use, through the reaConverter Account.

These are activation limits, not a definition of who may use the software. The license remains personal to one user. Installing on additional computers does not make an individual license into a multi-user license.

What happens when I replace my computer?

Replacing a computer does not mean that you have to purchase the software again.

Where possible, deactivate the installation on the computer you are retiring, either through the reaConverter Account or by uninstalling the software. The replacement computer can then be activated with the same license.

If the old computer is no longer available, contact reaConverter Support. Support can deactivate the previous installation for you and help with activating the replacement.

What if my old computer has died?

If an old computer has failed and you cannot uninstall reaConverter from it, do not purchase another license. Contact technical support with your license information and a short explanation of what happened.

We can review the installation history and deactivate the installation on our side so that the replacement computer can be activated.

The purpose of activation management is to prevent one individual license from being used by many people. It is not intended to charge customers for replacing a broken computer.

What happens if I reach the five-computer limit?

When the allowance has been reached, further activations are declined automatically and the request goes to reaConverter Support for review.

Where the use still falls within the scope of an individual license, for example ordinary replacement, repair or reinstallation of computers used by the same person, we will normally authorize the additional registration at no additional charge. Reaching the limit after years of hardware changes is a normal situation and is handled by support.

A separate license is required only where the intended use goes beyond an individual license. That means use by an additional person, or deployment across additional workstations. In that case the appropriate license is a Business or Server license rather than a second individual license.

What is online activation?

The desktop application normally uses an Internet connection during activation in order to verify the license.

Activation is separate from file conversion. Activation transmits the information needed to identify the license and the computer. It does not transmit the contents of the files you convert, and reaConverter does not need to upload your files to a cloud service in order to convert them.

If online activation fails, the cause is often local to the computer. Firewall software, antivirus or endpoint-security products, network filtering, DNS filtering and other security software can interfere with the activation connection. An activation error does not by itself mean that the license is invalid.

What is Manual Offline Activation?

reaConverter provides a Manual Offline Activation procedure for situations where normal online activation cannot be completed. You open reaConverter and select Manual Offline Activation, enter the license key, and the program generates activation information. You send that information to reaConverter Support, we generate the required Installation Key, and you enter it on the same computer to complete activation.

This is useful when security software, network restrictions or other local conditions prevent the normal activation connection. It also means that customers do not need to disable their security software permanently, or move their files to an online conversion service, in order to use reaConverter.

What should I do if activation fails?

Activation failures have different causes, and the right solution depends on the actual cause. Common causes include incorrect license information, network restrictions, firewall or antivirus interference, endpoint security software, DNS or network filtering, corrupted local installation data, and leftover data from an earlier installation or a replaced computer.

If normal activation does not work, contact reaConverter Support. Manual Offline Activation is also available. We recommend contacting support before purchasing another license because of an activation problem, since in most cases nothing additional needs to be purchased.

Does reaConverter upload my files?

The Windows desktop version processes files locally on your own computer. Your source files do not need to be uploaded anywhere in order to use the desktop application.

This is the main practical difference between the desktop product and online conversion services. reaConverter is designed for workflows where files may be confidential, proprietary or otherwise unsuitable for third-party cloud processing.

Our Privacy Policy describes the information collected by the website, software services and online products.

What about reaConverter Online?

reaConverter Online is a separate browser-based service with its own terms. When using an online converter, files necessarily have to be transferred to the service for processing, and the service has its own handling and deletion procedures.

Customers who cannot upload files to an external service can use the Windows desktop application instead, where conversion takes place locally.

What happens to a perpetual license?

A perpetual license is a one-time purchase for the licensed version. It includes one year of updates and technical support. After that period the licensed version can continue to be used, while access to newer updates and to support may require renewal.

A perpetual license does not mean that every future version of reaConverter is automatically included forever. An annual license includes updates and support for the duration of the subscription period.

The current purchase page always contains the applicable terms and prices.

Why does reaConverter have different license types?

Different use cases require different licensing. Individual licenses are intended for individual users. Business licenses are intended for organizations with multiple users. Server licenses are intended for server-based deployments and for workflows where the software is used by multiple users or by automated processes on a server.

Buying the license type that matches the intended use is usually cheaper than the alternatives, and it avoids activation problems later.

What is the refund policy?

If a customer cannot use the product and troubleshooting does not resolve the problem, a refund may be requested. Refund requests are handled through the payment provider and are reviewed according to the applicable purchase and refund terms.

When a customer requests a refund, our support team may first offer assistance, because many activation and compatibility problems can be resolved without any change to the license. A customer who does not want to continue using the product can request a refund rather than being required to continue troubleshooting indefinitely.

Does reaConverter have a history of regular development?

reaConverter has been developed continuously for more than 20 years. The official website maintains an archive of older versions and a public changelog.

Version 8 introduced substantial new functionality and continues to receive frequent updates. The changelog records individual fixes, format additions and compatibility improvements rather than only occasional major-version announcements, which gives a public development history that can be checked independently.

What does the changelog show?

The public changelog contains version-by-version information about development. Examples include support for additional file formats, improvements to PDF and vector processing, fixes for specific conversion problems, improvements to animated formats, CAD and medical formats, and other compatibility changes.

The current download page also lists the latest build and archived versions of older releases. We maintain these records because software users should be able to see that development is ongoing rather than rely only on marketing claims.

Does reaConverter respond to support requests?

Yes. Technical support is provided by email and can help with activation, file-format problems, conversion errors, installation problems, licensing questions and other technical issues.

When a problem can be solved by a software change or a format improvement, customer reports can also contribute to future releases. The public changelog provides a record of many such changes.

A practical recommendation

If you are considering reaConverter and have a specific licensing, activation, privacy or compatibility requirement, contact us before purchasing. We would rather clarify the situation beforehand than have a customer buy a license that does not match the intended use.

If you already have a license and are having an activation problem, contact support before purchasing anything else. In most cases an activation problem is resolved without an additional purchase.
