The ASC (Esri ASCII Grid) format stores raster geospatial data as plain text. Developed by the Environmental Systems Research Institute (ESRI), it describes a rectangular grid of cells using a short header — number of columns and rows, coordinates of the lower-left corner, cell size and a no-data value — followed by the cell values themselves, written row by row as ordinary numbers.
