A file of this type stores a regular grid of geoid heights, which allows ellipsoidal heights obtained from GNSS measurements to be converted into heights above the Canadian Geodetic Vertical Datum of 2013 (CGVD2013). The file consists of an 80-byte header and a data section. The header gives the grid boundaries and spacing in arc-seconds, the size of each value, and a scale factor, while the data section holds whole numbers instead of decimals, which keeps the file compact. Companion files with the .err extension use the same structure to describe the accuracy of the model.
