GTI to DXF: what carries over and what does not

GTI holds no pixels of its own. It is an index: a list of other raster files plus instructions for mosaicking, clipping or rescaling them, so it converts only when every file it points to is present at the path it records. A GTI copied to another machine on its own produces nothing usable. Converting to DXF renders the assembled result into one real file, which is often the whole reason to do it. A GTI file has a pixel count and a DPI value, and no real-world size at all. DXF is a drawing where one unit means one millimetre or one inch, so the conversion has to assign a scale. Set the DPI before the run rather than resizing afterwards, then measure one feature of known length in the output and scale the drawing once to match it. Everything downstream, from dimensioning to cutting, rests on that single check.
