FAQ
ITF to CIT Conversion
What are ITF files?
ITF is a text file with geographic data in the INTERLIS 1 transfer format, a Swiss standard for passing data between land information systems. It is the delivery that goes together with a model file with the .ili extension: the model says what kinds of objects exist and what their attributes mean, and the ITF file holds the objects themselves, such as parcels, buildings, boundary lines, and survey points, with their coordinates and attributes. The format was created by the Swiss Federal Directorate for Cadastral Surveying in the 1990s and is still used for official surveying data in Switzerland. Because the data and the model are kept apart, one model can be used for many deliveries, and new deliveries are checked against it.
What are CIT files?
A CIT file represents a black-and-white raster image created using an Intergraph Security, Government and Infrastructure (SG&I) piece of software. Until a few years ago, Intergraph was considered one of largest software developers in the world, and is part of Hexagon AB since 2010. The company provides IT services all over the world to governments and businesses, and apart from the SG&I division it also includes one called Process, Power & Marine (PP&M) and another called Hexagon Geospatial.
