Questions & Answers
ITF files: Frequently Asked Questions
What are ITF files?
ITF is a plain-text list of objects that are described by a separate INTERLIS model, written in a fixed form so that any program can read it line by line. The file begins with the word SCNT, which stands for the start of the transfer, and ends with ENDE. In between, a line starting with MODL names the model, TOPI names a topic, and TABL starts a table of objects of one kind. Every object is a line starting with OBJE, followed by its identifier and its attribute values, in the order defined by the model, and ETAB closes the table. Geometry is written in extra lines: STPT gives the start point of a line, LIPT gives each further point, and ELIN ends the line, while a circular arc is described by an intermediate point on it. The first four characters of a line serve as its marker. The layout of the file depends on the model, so the file cannot be understood without its .ili file, or at least a reference to it, and their format versions must agree. Files are usually plain text, though some use UTF-16 encoding. A transfer file of INTERLIS 1 can be converted to the XML-based INTERLIS 2 format without loss, but not the other way round. Supported by FME and the INTERLIS Viewer.
