FAQ
KRO to MTV Conversion
What are KRO files?
KRO (Kolor Raw) is a simple, uncompressed image format created for the Kolor software, best known for its Autopano panorama stitching programs. Panoramas can be gigantic, and many common formats cannot hold pictures larger than about 30,000 pixels on a side, so the authors designed a format without such a limit. It stores color pictures with 8 or 16 bits per channel, or with floating-point numbers for high dynamic range images, with or without transparency. Because the pixels are saved without any compression, files are large, and the format is intended for temporary work between stages of processing rather than for sharing finished pictures. The panorama publishing tools of krpano can also read and write it.
What are MTV files?
The MTV extension is associated with the MTV Ray Tracer, a piece of software created by Mark VandeWettering and currently discontinued. The software's ray tracing abilities allow it to display 3-D images in 2-D by tracing a path of light through pixels on an image surface. The MTV format uses a simple algorithm and design, and continues to be used for designing computer games and animations or in television and film production.
