The second is the National Transfer Format of Great Britain, a British Standard from 1988 that is the usual format for digital map data of Ordnance Survey, the national mapping agency, such as contours, elevation models, road and river networks, and administrative boundaries. The two have nothing in common except the three letters, and the first bytes of the file show which one it is.

PCT is an image file format associated with Macintosh QuickDraw, a graphics program developed in the 1980s as part of the Apple Macintosh operating system. The initial version of the format, called PICT 1, could store 8 colors, while the later developed PICT 2 supported 24 and 32-bit color images.
