It replaced the older .las (latitude) and .los (longitude) files of early NADCON versions and supports the biquadratic interpolation of NADCON 5.0 between realizations of NAD 83, NAD 27, and future geopotential datums. A single header record defines the south-west and north-east corners, cell spacing, and grid dimensions, followed by float values stored from the southernmost row northward and west to east within each row. NADCON5 grids are big-endian, while VERTCON3 grids use little-endian order under the same extension.
