What changes when you convert CZI to PCX

CZI is an N-dimensional acquisition rather than a picture. One file can hold several fluorescence channels, a stack of focal planes, a time series and a mosaic of stitched tiles, each recorded separately by the camera. PCX is a flat image format, so those dimensions have to be resolved into ordinary pictures, and which result is the right one depends on the work: a merged colour composite suits a figure or a presentation, while separate greyscale planes are what quantification needs. PCX stores a limited palette rather than full colour, so the conversion has to reduce the number of distinct colours. Photographic content shows this as banding, while flat graphics and icons usually survive it untouched.
