A file of this type covers one degree of latitude by one degree of longitude and holds elevation values at a post spacing of 30 arc-seconds, which corresponds to roughly one kilometer on the ground. Higher levels of the same series use the .dt1 and .dt2 extensions, with spacings of 3 and 1 arc-seconds. Each file starts with header records that describe the cell origin, the data set identification, and the accuracy of the data, followed by the elevation grid. DTED is widely used in military, aviation, and civil mapping applications, and Level 0 data is publicly available.
What are CG4 files?
CG4 is a raster format associated with CALS (Continuous Acquisition and Life-Cycle Support) — a program initiated by the US Department of Defense to capture and link military data.
