It uses the BYN structure, with an 80-byte header and a regular grid of whole numbers, and normally shares its name with the geoid file it describes, for example CGG2013n83.err next to CGG2013n83.byn. Surveyors and geodesists use such grids to judge how reliable a height conversion from GNSS measurements is in a given location. The values are small, because they express the expected error of the model rather than a height.

The PCX (Personal Computer Exchange) image file format is associated with PC Paintbrush, an image editing software initially designed for MS-DOS by ZSoft Corporation.
