It stores color pictures with 8 or 16 bits per channel, or with floating-point numbers for high dynamic range images, with or without transparency. Because the pixels are saved without any compression, files are large, and the format is intended for temporary work between stages of processing rather than for sharing finished pictures. What are PGM files?
