What are MEM files?
MEM (Japanese DEM) is an elevation grid of the Geospatial Information Authority of Japan, in which each cell holds one height value in meters. A file covers a rectangle of the country, and its position and cell spacing are described in the file, which allows a program to place the grid in latitude and longitude on the Tokyo datum, the old national reference system. Heights refer to the Japanese vertical datum, with zero at mean sea level in Tokyo Bay.
