How ND2 and DXF differ in practice

ND2 is made of pixels and DXF stores geometry, so the conversion traces the image into real lines, arcs and polylines. The result is editable in CAD: entities can be selected, snapped to and measured, rather than a bitmap wrapped inside a DXF container, which is what a viewer or a lightweight converter usually produces. It is still derived geometry, so expect contours rather than a structured drawing. Dimensions, blocks and meaningful layer names were never in the ND2 to begin with. Lettering in the image is traced as shapes, not recognised as text. Every character arrives as an outline that can be scaled and edited like any other geometry, but not retyped, restyled or searched, and no font is attached to it. Titles and callouts on a scanned drawing usually have to be typed again in the DXF if they need to stay editable.
