What are SCUT files?
SCUT (Sure Cuts A Lot Project) is the first generation project file of the Craft Edge Sure Cuts A Lot cutting software, and is also written by version 1 of Easy Cut Studio, an unrelated product from EasyCutStudio.com that adopted the same extension family. A SCUT file stores a full cutting job rather than a flat drawing: the shapes and their Bezier outlines, text objects and their font references, grouping and clipping structure, per object stroke and fill styling, the size and orientation of the virtual cutting mat and the profile of the target machine. Later versions of both applications append a version number to the extension, which is why SCUT2, SCUT3, SCUT4 and SCUT5 files exist, and newer releases generally open the older files while older releases cannot open newer ones. The format is not publicly documented and there is no free viewer for it, so users who no longer have the original program installed usually need a converter to recover the geometry. Exporting the paths to SVG, DXF, PDF or EPS makes the design usable in Cricut Design Space, Silhouette Studio, Inkscape, CorelDRAW and other cutting or CAD environments.
