FAQ
XTF to CIT Conversion
What are XTF files?
XTF is the XML transfer file of INTERLIS 2, the Swiss standard for exchanging geographic data. It holds the actual data of a delivery, for example the parcels, buildings, and land cover of a municipality, in readable XML text, while the rules that the data follow, such as which classes of objects exist and what their attributes mean, are written in a separate model file with the .ili extension. Because the data are tied to the model, a program can check automatically whether an XTF file is complete and correct, which is a requirement for official Swiss data such as the cadastral survey and the public-law restrictions on land ownership. XTF files are used in Switzerland and also in other countries that have adopted INTERLIS.
What are CIT files?
A CIT file represents a black-and-white raster image created using an Intergraph Security, Government and Infrastructure (SG&I) piece of software. Until a few years ago, Intergraph was considered one of largest software developers in the world, and is part of Hexagon AB since 2010. The company provides IT services all over the world to governments and businesses, and apart from the SG&I division it also includes one called Process, Power & Marine (PP&M) and another called Hexagon Geospatial.
