What are XTF files?
XTF is an XML file with the data of one INTERLIS 2 delivery, arranged exactly as its model prescribes. The root element is a transfer, in INTERLIS 2.3 called TRANSFER and in version 2.4 written with a namespace prefix, and it has two parts. The header section names the models that apply, with their versions, and the sender, and it may contain comments and the definition of the identifier spaces. The data section is divided into baskets, each of which holds the objects of one topic of the model and is identified by a basket identifier. Inside a basket, every object is an element named after its class in the model, such as the class of buildings, with a unique transfer identifier, its attributes as child elements, and its geometry in a structured form for coordinates, polylines, surfaces, and areas, with arcs allowed. Links between objects are written as references to the identifiers of other objects. The incremental form of a transfer can carry only the changes, with start and end states. A program that has the model can validate the file against it, checking types, mandatory values, and consistency rules, and the file can also be loaded into a database. Compared with the INTERLIS 1 text format, INTERLIS 2 is more flexible and uses XML, and an old transfer file can be converted to this form without loss.
