Because the data are tied to the model, a program can check automatically whether an XTF file is complete and correct, which is a requirement for official Swiss data such as the cadastral survey and the public-law restrictions on land ownership. XTF files are used in Switzerland and also in other countries that have adopted INTERLIS.
