What changes when you convert GTI to DWG

GTI holds no pixels of its own. It is an index: a list of other raster files plus instructions for mosaicking, clipping or rescaling them, so it converts only when every file it points to is present at the path it records. A GTI copied to another machine on its own produces nothing usable. Converting to DWG renders the assembled result into one real file, which is often the whole reason to do it. GTI is made of pixels and DWG stores geometry, so the conversion traces the image into real lines, arcs and polylines. The result is editable in CAD: entities can be selected, snapped to and measured, rather than a bitmap wrapped inside a DWG container, which is what a viewer or a lightweight converter usually produces. It is still derived geometry, so expect contours rather than a structured drawing. Dimensions, blocks and meaningful layer names were never in the GTI to begin with.
