FAQ
NAT to EMF Conversion
What are NAT files?
NAT is the native archive format of Meteosat Second Generation (MSG), the European weather satellite series operated by EUMETSAT. A file of this type holds one full image of the Earth disk taken by the SEVIRI radiometer, which scans the whole disk every 15 minutes and records it in 12 spectral channels, from visible light to thermal infrared. Eleven of the channels have a ground resolution of about 3 kilometers at the point below the satellite, and the twelfth, a high-resolution visible channel, has 1 kilometer. Such images are the basis of weather forecasting, cloud and fog monitoring, dust and volcanic ash tracking, and climate research. A typical file is named after the satellite and the time of the scan, and it is large, because it holds all the channels together.
What are EMF files?
EMF (Enhanced Metafile) is a format used by the Windows operating system to store spooling information connected to printing. The term "spooling" comes from the acronym for "simultaneous peripheral operations online" and represents the creation of a list of tasks scheduled for completion by Windows at a later time. EMF files can contain vector or bitmap components and they replaced the original WMF (Windows Metafile) format, using a 32-bit structure instead of a 16-bit one and thus providing better quality of printing.
