RIK is a raster map format used for digital maps issued by Lantmäteriet, the Swedish national mapping, cadastral, and land registration authority. A file of this type holds a map as a picture, in which each point is one of up to 256 colors, together with the information needed to place it on the ground in the Swedish national grid. The format exists in three versions, and files of all of them are found in collections of Swedish topographic and general maps, which were distributed on discs and used in navigation programs, hiking and orienteering software, and ordinary mapping systems.
