What are RIK files?
RIK (Swedish Grid RIK) is a raster map format in which each pixel is an 8-bit number that selects a color from a palette, so a map with a limited set of colors, such as a topographic sheet, can be kept compactly. The format has three versions, 1, 2, and 3, and readers must handle each of them. The file contains the geographic extent of the map and the cell size, so it can be placed in the Swedish grid, in which coordinates are given in meters.
