Technical note

How STEP and JP2 differ in practice

A 3D model has no front of its own, so the JP2 shows it from one viewpoint: the angles you set on the X, Y and Z axes, or a preset such as the isometric view. Whatever faces away from that viewpoint is not in the picture, so a part with features on several sides needs several images, which the multiple-frames option renders in one run. STEP describes geometry rather than pixels, so it has no inherent resolution. The conversion renders it at whatever size you choose, and that choice is final: enlarging the JP2 afterwards will not recover the sharpness. Set the output dimensions or DPI before converting, not after.
