What are THF files?
THF is a small text file that works as the table of contents of an EDIGEO exchange, and any program that wants to read the exchange starts from it. The standard is published by AFNOR as NF Z 52-000, and it describes data in separate parts, each of which has its own file. The THF file is the only one in an exchange and holds the general data of the transmission, including the names of the other files and the links between them. The other files are the GEN file, which describes the structure and the geographic extent of the data, the GEO file with the reference system of the coordinates, the QAL file with information about the quality of the data, the DIC file with the dictionary of objects, attributes, and relations, the SCD file with the conceptual data schema, and one or more VEC files with the vector data themselves, such as points, lines, and surfaces. The records in these files are written in a text-based form, and the standard allows the use of the ISO 8211 generator for the final encoding. Objects in the VEC files are linked to the descriptions in the SCD and DIC files by identifiers, so a package cannot be understood without them. For the cadastral plan, the files are usually delivered zipped, one folder per commune and sheet. A reader is given the THF file and loads the rest by itself.
